1. Cleaning and preparation work

Before carrying out any crack treatment, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the debris inside the crack, including dust, gravel, vegetation, etc., to ensure that the repair material can tightly bond with the original road surface. After cleaning, sometimes it is necessary to widen and deepen the cracks in order to better embed the repair material, which is called slotting.

2. Hot grouting method

Hot grouting is a traditional crack treatment technique, especially suitable for cracks with smaller widths (usually not exceeding 1 centimeter). This method uses a specialized hot melt sealing machine to inject the sealing material (usually modified asphalt or specialized sealing adhesive) heated to a flowing state into the crack. After the cooling and solidification of the grouting material, it can effectively prevent water infiltration, reduce the further expansion of cracks, and restore the smoothness of the road surface.

3. Sealant repair method

For cracks with larger width or deeper depth, sealant repair method can be used. This method uses cold applied sealant material, which can be applied at room temperature without the need for heating. Sealant has good adhesion and elasticity, which can adapt to the thermal expansion and contraction changes of the road surface, and prevent cracks from cracking again. During construction, evenly apply or fill the sealant into the cracks, and once the surface is level, traffic can be opened.

4. Self adhesive seam tape method

Self adhesive tape is a convenient and efficient crack treatment method, especially suitable for rapid repair. This type of adhesive tape has a self-adhesive layer on the back. During construction, simply peel off the protective film and directly adhere it to the cleaned surface of the crack. It can be tightly pressed by rolling. Adhesive tape materials usually contain high molecular weight polymers, which have good weather resistance and waterproof properties, can effectively seal cracks and extend the service life of roads.

5. Micro surface treatment and ultra-thin wear layer technology

For covering large areas of fine cracks or preventive maintenance, micro surface treatment or ultra-thin wear layer technology can be used. Both methods involve laying a thin layer of asphalt mixture on the existing road surface, with a thickness of approximately 1 centimeter. They can not only seal existing cracks, but also improve the overall strength and durability of the road surface, delaying the generation of new cracks. During construction, clean and pretreat the road surface first, then evenly spread or spray the mixture, and finally use a roller to compact.

6. Grouting repair method

For deep structural cracks, grouting repair method may be required. This method involves drilling deep into the cracks and then injecting cement-based or other chemical grout to fill the cracks and enhance the roadbed structure. Grouting can not only effectively seal cracks, but also improve the stability of the foundation, making it suitable for treating cracks caused by foundation settlement and other reasons.
